Suddenly, all the rage

Who’d have thought it? Literature, reading and ‘all things wordy’ are all the rage at Selfridges (note: no apostrophe and I don’t hear anyone complaining). The Words Words Words event ending 1st March will see a ‘pop-up’ library in store, where classes, workshops and lectures from people like The Idler Academy and It’s Nice That are also on offer. Have your handwriting analysed, learn the ancient art of storytelling, or just discuss your favourite literary works at the Penguin Book Club. The programme includes Latin lessons, a discussion of Oliver Twist; a Valentine’s Day lecture on the art of love letters and poetry reading from publishers Faber. All events are free and there’s no need to book. For the full programme, go to http://style.selfridges.com/whats-on/words-words-words-takes-over-selfridges

For those who are concerned that they may OD on culture, the staff in Selfridges’ Wonder Room will be poised to sell you beautiful and unnecessary wordy goods, everything from scrabble tile necklaces to typewriter fridge magnets.
